Salmonella Abortusovis (SAO), a sheep-adapted serotype, is the main cause of abortion in pregnant ewes while the fetus or newborn can develop lethal infections. Its importance lies in the economic losses that occur in ovine production systems in regions that depend on sheep farming.

For this reason the regular monitoring of pathogen circulation,  especially through serological diagnosis, is advisable to prevent disease introduction and spread in SAO-free areas, especially in case of animal export, and to reduce abortion risk.

Our highly qualified R&D department has developed the Salmonella Abortusovis test, certified by the World Organisation for Animal Health  (OIE). It is an indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay intended for the rapid detection of anti-Salmonella Abortusovis IgG in sheep serum and plasma.
