New Legionella Quantitative kit - Real-Time PCR

New Legionella spp. quantitative kit was developed and validated according to the ISO/TS 12869:2012 for the detection and quantification of Legionella spp. using a quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR).


New Legionella spp. quantitative kit is a Real-Time PCR assay to detect and quantitate genomic DNA of Legionella spp., by the amplification of a specific sequence with the use of fluorescent-labelled probe. The kit provides a ready to use mastermix, contains all reagents except enzyme and DNA.

Legionella bacteria are ubiquitous in natural and man-made aqueous environments, and the main form of human infections occuring through inhalation of aereosol contaminated with Legionella. Currently the genus includes more than 50 species and L.pneumophila is the most common pathogenic species. The reference method for enumeration of Legionella in water is culture, however this procedure has several disadvantages, it is complex and it can take up to 10 days to obtain confirmed result. In addition, the sensitivity of culture is poor [Ballard, et al., 2000]. In this context, Real-Time PCR is an alternative tool for rapid and accurated dection and quantification of Legionella spp.
